Ana Pocrnjic is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker who focuses on helping each individual understand the unique ways they respond to stress, and how this interacts with their distinctive life experiences. This is to honour the self, and through understanding our own essence, to interact more meaningfully and mindfully with the world around us.
Ana holds a Master of Social Work, a Graduate Diploma in Mental Health, and a Bachelor of Behavioural Studies from University of Queensland.
For the past 13 years Ana has worked in a trauma counselling service. She has worked extensively with young people and adults from various cultural and religious backgrounds, people with disability, people with an acquired brain injury (ABI), the LGBTIQ+ community, people struggling with alcohol and other drug issues, and those with co-morbid mental health issues. Ana feels the rich client base she has experienced has taught her to find the common language around mental health and explore this with individuals seeking support in a meaningful, joint process of counselling.
Ana has provided high level, professional counselling in her work at QPASTT (Queensland Program of Assistance to Survivors of Torture and Trauma) and Department of Veterans’ Affairs and has supported clients in the drug and alcohol setting.
Ana feels passionately about destigmatising mental health and creating a space where all aspects of our being can be safely explored. Ana feels strongly about supporting clients to overcome shame or guilt and be able to express all aspects of themselves. She is also passionate about exploring the mind-body connection thus increasing our ability to better recognise and respond to triggers.
Ana is skilled at providing both individual (youth from 14 years old and adults) and couples counselling. She is skilled at, and greatly enjoys, facilitating various therapeutic groups, workshops and providing training. She practices a client-centred, trauma informed approach, and utilises a variety of evidence-based practices.
Ana’s specialised areas of counselling are:
- Trauma counselling
- PTSD counselling
- Grief and loss
- Relationship stressors

In Ana’s personal time, she enjoys picnics, reading, naps, her dogs taking her out for a walk, and friends and family time.
