David is a dedicated therapist, basing his practice on effective psychological approaches which incorporate compassion, respect, and the preservation of personal dignity.
As an accredited Mental Health Social Worker, and with over 12 years of experience supporting individuals to live a life that is aligned with their values and aspirations, David brings a calm presence that opens opportunity for deep reflection and realisation. Through a shared understanding of the client’s past experiences and therapeutic preferences, a tailored approach will be developed to promote personal growth and progress.
Core to the therapeutic relationship is that the client will be heard and listened to, and will have choice and control on how each session unfolds. Inspired by Buddhist practices of mindfulness and dedication toward wisdom and self-actualisation, David approaches the therapy process with an openness and equanimity that facilitates helpful and constructive examination of a situation and problem.
While working in a prior role as a clinician, David provided therapy to individuals with mental health issues that were further complicated by disability. Working with such diversity formed the foundations of being eclectic and flexible in therapy approaches. His professional experience expanded when he went on to operate as a private practitioner. Here he gained further expertise and interest in working with:
- individuals with a history of trauma
- suicidality
- anxiety
- depression
- substance misuse
- problematic anger and aggression
- harmful and destructive behaviours
- relationship issues
- challenges relating to identity and LGBTIQ+ issues
Key approaches used are Rogerian Person-Centred Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT).
Throughout the working relationship, a client can feel confident that they will be able to focus on what they are experiencing and needing to talk about, without feeling judged or criticised. The process of accessing therapy is a great step toward realising your inherent potential, and making meaningful and lasting change. David looks forward to supporting you with this.
